How to Enjoy Meditation
July 2-23

 

Steve Grover who has been practising Buddhism for over a decade, will teach this series of classes. His qualities of humility and sincerity, as well as his wonderful sense of humour, are conveyed in his teachings, which are very practical, down-to-earth and helpful.
 
 
Meditation is not a difficult activity; the challenge is the number of distracting thoughts that keep pulling us away from an experience of inner peace. We all need to learn to unplug and to give ourselves the opportunity to be still, both mentally and physically. There is so much outer stimulation that we forget how to be quiet inside. Meditation helps us re-connect with ourself and also with others.  A 10-minute daily practice can help reduce worry, stress, and agitation which will positively impact our time at work, as well as our relationships.

Each class will include helpful advice based on Buddhist thought, and guidance in how to meditate. You can attend any or all of the classes; everyone is welcome!

Calm, Cool, and in Control
August 13-27

 

Jane Douglas will teach this series of classes. Jane has great knowledge and experience of Buddha’s teachings, having studied and practised Buddhism for over twenty years. She has taught for numerous years. Her teachings are enjoyable, insightful, uplifting and very practical.
 
 
It is an invaluable skill to be able to recognize how we are feeling and to distinguish between worthwhile states of mind that make us happy, and the states of mind that only bring pain and prolong our unhappiness. By learning to identify our negative thoughts, we can decide not to follow them, and then choose positive and constructive ways of feeling and responding. Through developing this one skill, we’ll become more confident and in control of our daily experiences, and of our life in general.
