A Weekend Away Retreat — April 26-28, 2019

Love, Compassion, and Spiritual Transformation
at Manoir de la Fôret, Cantley, Quebec

This retreat focuses on the sublime and magical practice called “Taking & Giving”. This powerful and transformative meditation helps solve our daily problems, and is based on one of Buddhism’s best-loved teachings called Eight Verses of Training the Mind.

The foundation of Taking & Giving is developing pure love and compassion for others. When we take our mind off of ourself and shine light on the suffering others face, we are able to accept our own difficulties with greater ease and joy. We use the creative power of our imagination to take away suffering, and give happiness to each and every living being and thus bring a pure and peaceful world into reality.

Taking & Giving also improves our concentration and inner strength, and purifies our karma to experience suffering in the future.

To learn more about these practices please refer to The New Eight Steps to Happiness by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This commentary to the Eight Verses of Training the Mind is available for purchase at Joyful Land Buddhist Centre’s bookstore or online at Tharpa Publications Canada at https://tharpa.com/ca/store/books/all-books/the-new-eight-steps-to-happiness.html

The retreat begins with an Introduction on Friday evening and ends Sunday after lunch. There will be four, hour-long, meditations on Saturday and two on Sunday which include a brief teaching, as well as prayers to help us set a beneficial motivation. We observe silence on both days till lunchtime; this helps us to stay inwardly focused to bring the experience of the meditation deeper into our hearts.

This retreat is open to both beginners and more experienced meditators.
