Indepth Study Program

Joyful Path of Good Fortune
With our Resident Teacher Kelsang Chöyang
Beginning Sunday October 4

If you’ve been attending our General Program classes for a while and would like an opportunity to study Kadampa Buddhism in more depth, now is a great time to try our Foundation Program.

We will be beginning a new section of the book Joyful Path of Good Fortune by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso this term. This section of the text (called the “Great Scope”) emphasizes very effective, practical methods to increase the depth of our love and compassion, and to extend it to include everyone. We will then study Buddha’s most profound teachings on wisdom, and learn how to apply them. This will bring great meaning to our daily lives, and help us to fulfill our true potential.

This is not a drop-in program, but requires certain commitments. Please contact our Education Program Coordinator at education@meditateinottawa.org for information or to register.

Maintaining Harmonious Relationships

With our Resident Teacher, Kelsang Chöyang

Why is it so difficult to keep our relationships stable and harmonious? Why are they so susceptible to breaking down? Good relationships (whether with friends, co-workers, or family) take time and energy to maintain, but the focus needs to be on our own state of mind and not just on the outer circumstances. The two delusions, or negative minds, that contribute greatly to disharmony are attachment and anger. Putting energy into reducing these negative influences, as taught by Buddha, is guaranteed to decrease frustration and disappointment, and build up appreciation and love.

Meditations for a Meaningful Life

These classes introduce us to a series of meditations derived from Buddha’s teachings which can help us to find lasting inner peace and great meaning in our daily lives. If we contemplate and meditate on these teachings, we will find that we’re better able to deal with our daily problems, and find the lasting happiness we’re searching for. Ultimately, these teachings will lead us to develop all of our good qualities, and overcome all of our faults. In short, they will give us a far more meaningful life.

Although the classes are presented as an ongoing series, each class is self-contained. These classes are intermediate in level, but many beginners find them very enjoyable and meaningful.

Class Fee: $12 and for those experiencing financial difficulties at this time: $6
You may register for these five classes as a package for $48. Click here.

Learning from Loss

A Special Half-Day Meditation Class

Saturday October 17, 10am-12noon

This class will be taught by our Resident Teacher Kelsang Chöyang

Loss is a part of life. Everyone experiences it, whether it’s losing a cherished possession, a way of life, or a loved one. It is not easy to face loss and deal with it in a constructive manner, or in a way that alleviates our pain, rather than increasing it. In Buddhism, loss can be seen as a spiritual teacher, enabling us to learn from life’s adversities and giving us the space to accept. By using wisdom and compassion we can transform loss into inner peace and growth.

This class will include helpful, easy-to-follow advice, and guided meditations. Everyone is welcome.

Class Fee: $20 and for those experiencing financial difficulties at this time: $10.00

The Stillness Within

A Special Half-Day Meditation Class

We are so constantly bombarded by outer stimulation that it is difficult to enjoy the peace and stillness within our own mind.  The practice of meditation allows us to go inside for awhile and deliberately cultivate inner peace. This is something we can do within our busy, daily life without a lot of fanfare. A regular practice of meditation is highly effective in reducing stress levels and increasing happiness. If you are curious about the benefits of meditation and wondering if it’s for you, this course is a perfect beginner’s guide.

This class include guided meditations, and will provide you with the basics to begin your own meditation practice at home. Everyone is welcome.
