Blessing Empowerment of Buddha Avalokiteshvara
Blessing Empowerment of Buddha Avalokiteshvara
With Teachings on the
Compassionate Practice of Powa
Saturday, October 1, from 10am - 4:30pm
What is an empowerment?
An empowerment is a teaching and series of guided meditations whereby we make a connection with a particular Buddha. It bestows upon us special blessings that heal our mind and awaken our Buddha nature, which is our potential to become an enlightened being.
Who is Avalokiteshvara?
Avalokiteshvara is an enlightened being who is a manifestation of the compassion of all Buddhas. Through this blessing empowerment we will draw close to Avalokiteshvara who will help us unlock our potential for great compassion. Pure compassion is a mind that finds the suffering of others unbearable but it does not make us depressed. In fact it gives us tremendous energy to work for others and to complete the spiritual path for their sake.
What is the practice of ‘powa’?
Powa is a Buddhist practice of transference of conciousness. Through our compassionate prayers, we can help our loved ones and all living beings make the important transition at the time of their death, to a fortunate rebirth in a Pure Land of a Buddha, where there is no suffering. Our ability to use powa to help the dying and those who have recently died, will depend upon the strength of our compassion and reliance upon Avalokiteshvara. If we have powerful compassion for all living beings we can definitely help them.
We will learn about this practice and engage in the prayers, for the benefit of all living beings who have recently died.
Everyone is welcome.

One of the greatest gifts of Dharma is that it teaches us how to purify our past non-virtues.
