In this Public Talk Gen Thekchen will focus on the Buddhist meditation practice of taking and giving, which is one of the most powerful methods for opening our hearts and for healing mental and physical illness. This ancient healing technique has the power to improve mental peace and happiness, and is especially beneficial in situations where we may feel powerless to help others or to overcome adversity.
This public talk will include guided meditations and an uplifting talk.
The Public Talk will be followed by a one-day retreat on the same topic, to gain deeper experience of these beautiful meditations. See below for information about the retreat.

In this one-day guided retreat, Gen Thekchen will lead us in meditations which will help us to gain deeper experience of the powerful Buddhist practice of taking and giving, a method for opening our hearts and for healing mental and physical illness. Through gaining practical experience of these ancient healing meditations, we will improve our mental peace and happiness. These techniques are especially powerful in helping us to gain inner strength to deal with adversity, and deal with feelings of helplessness when wishing to help others.
These guided meditations are suitable for beginners and more experienced meditators - everyone welcome!
Schedule for Saturday Retreat, June 7:
Session 1: 9:30-11am
Session 2: 11:30am-12:30pm
Lunch break: BYO lunch. Consider bringing small finger-foods to share with others. Enjoy quiet walks on the trails.
Session 3: 2:00-3:00pm
Session 4: 3:30-4:30pm
The Sunshine Rotary Park is a secluded rural park, located on Thorburn Road adjacent to the boundary of Portugal Cove - St. Phillip's. Our retreat will be held in the beautiful onsite Chalet, a comfortable & quiet spot for our guided meditation retreat. During the breaks, there will be time to explore the Park's lovely & extensive network of trails.

Our Teacher for both these events
Both the Public Talk and the Retreat will be led by Buddhist monk & Teacher Gen Kelsang Thekchen, who is a Kadampa Buddhist monk & senior Teacher in the New Kadampa Tradition. He has been a Teacher under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for more than 25 years. Gen Thekchen has taught widely in Canada and in the UK, and is now the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Centre Ottawa. He is well known for his ability to present Buddha's teachings in a practical, profound and often humorous way, making them very accessible and easy to practise in everyday life.
